Common Queries

What can I expect from my assessment?

You will be given a client questionnaire before your first appointment which you are asked to complete and either send back or bring with you to the session. Each assessment is fifty-minutes long where we discuss a range of factors to learn more about you as a person and your current problem. By getting to know each client and gaining an understanding of their background and current issues, I can ensure that the correct treatment package is given.

What can I expect in a typical session?

Each session is, essentially, a problem-solving session. I will ask you to describe your current situation, and your feelings about it, and then I use my expertise to assist you in trying to resolve that problem so you can move closer to having the life you wish to have. At the beginning of a session, I will invite you to share what’s been going on in your life, what’s on your mind, what’s bothering you, or whether there are any goals you’d like to discuss. You’ll be invited to speak openly. As I listen I may take notes as you speak. You won’t be criticised, interrupted or judged as you speak. Your conversation will be kept confidential, unless I think there is a risk of harm to yourself or to someone else. This is a special, unique type of conversation in which you can say exactly what you feel, be honest and not have to worry that you’re going to hurt someone’s feelings, damage a relationship, or be penalised in any way. Anything you want—or need—to say is OK. Some therapists (like myself) may give clients some home practise to complete after a session. That home practise might be to practise any skills we have discussed in the session. For example, to exercise three times a week, practise relaxation exercises, or writing down some of your thoughts that cause distress. During your next session, you might share your progress and address any areas where you got frustrated, stuck, or off-track.

What type of therapy do you provide?

The type of therapy that is most suitable for you will depend on the type of problem that you have. Within my practise I use a range of theories and models to guide treatment. These include; cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and health psychology models.

How many sessions will I need?

You will usually attend a weekly appointment. The course of treatment usually lasts for between 5 and 20 sessions depending on the condition being treated.

How long does each therapy session take?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment you will need to give 24 hours notice. If you cancel within the 24 hour time period you will be charged 30% of the cost of your appointment, unless you have extenuating circumstances.

Is there parking at your clinic?

Yes, there is private off road parking available and this free of charge.
